We often create an overall Jira project plan at this stage covering aspects of the development. These will include other design aspects such as in field upgrades, secure boot, data encryption, EMC testing, etc. to ensure alignment of timeline and project expectations.
Once the requirements are understood and validated and external interactions defined, the next steps are typically to look at identifying suitable hardware components (if applicable), agreeing interfaces for external connectivity and establishing an early software development environment to allow software development in parallel to prototype hardware development.
